Rear slider replacement

The rear sliding window in my 97 has started to leak. I heard that it is a design flaw, what is the fix? Aftermarket slider and if so what one? Or would a glass shop have factory ones that have been redesigned?

i see alot of talk about the rear slider's leaking. in all that i have seen. very few were really the window it self. on allmost of of the leak's it's just the seal for the window. it is just (beutal) not sure i spelled that right. but it used to be called, dum dum. the window has nut's on the inside. there are nut's for the window and nut's for the plastic trim. around the window. just remove the one's for the window. with a scraper you can start to break the seal of the dum dum. have someone in the back to help. you can get the dum dum at any auto glass shop. once you get it out. use the dum dum to remove it's self. get a small ball started. and just push it against the stuff on the glass and the cab and it will pull it self off easy. not that bad at all. the hardest part is the int. trim. the seat back on the newer truck's are a little tricky. but really not bad at all. my friend put a power slider in his. so i got his stock slider and put it in mine. hope this is not to much info. i get carried away sometime's. hehe. and if it's not enough info let me know. good luck.

I had an aftermarket rear slider window in my '97 F150 Super Cab. In the four years that I owned the truck, I never had a water leak.

I didn't have the same problem on mine, however a friend did and ford replaced it back in 1998 when the truck was under warrantee. The shop gave hime the old window as well. It was sitting in his attic when he bought his 2000 he gave me the window and said it had leaked previously. I talked to the auto shops and they said that in 1998 Ford changed the sealing compound. They had been using some stuff that tended to rollover when installing the window which would cause a leak. They said they use this stuff now and gave me a tube of a black rubber caulk made by 3M. It was goopier than the original seal which came in a roll form. I took my old solid glass window out and put the leaky window in with the new goop and it has not leaked yet going on 1 year.

Angry Leaky Slider

I have a loaded '97 XLT Reg. cab, the glass shop looked at it and said the track was cracked, and they said that was a problem, and I have to replace the whole window, everything will cost about $400. P.S. it leaks on the CD changer, It leaks on both sides of the window, not in the middle?
