Exclamation The rust finally got me!

I just noticed the lower doors and tailgate have begun to bubble up. The last time I cleaned the jams it wasn't there, and now it is. How far up in mileage are these parts covered under ext. warranty? Is it covered only if the outer body rusts? I have to do something before it gets out of hand, for sure. Anyone had theirs repaired under the 6/75 Quality care(but after the 3/36)?,,,,98

Angry I have it too....

From what I know, there is a 7 year corrison warranty on the sheetmetal. Mine has it too, and it was documented before the 36,000 miles was up, so it is on record. Dealership told me that there isn't a fix yet for it, just like the door cracks. That was awhile ago though, so maybe things have changed, might have to stop back there and harrass them about it.
It makes me mad thinking that I have a truck that is going to be rusted out before my dad 1979 F250.....

Sorry to hear about it.

I did realize that you are from houston.... How much do you go to the beach? I know there is alot of salt in the air down there and the salt takes a toll on alot of vehicles down there. I don't know if it has anything to do with yours. Just a thought.

Cool

It spent about four weeks in San Diego just off the beach, I don't think that could cause this really. That was almost a year and a half ago. I've never been nearer to the Gulf Coast than Houston, well maybe once or twice. I've got a good dealer, I need to go see what their take on it would be. It's going in anyway for plugs and a squealing belt. Hate to add that to the list, but hey, it's RUST,,,,brrrrrr,,,,98

Not sure on the mileage, but it covers rust through from the inside out. Surface rust isn't covered. My doors were just done a month ago... same problem. Never thought to look at the tailgate, though.... probably going to have the same problem. Plus, the stuff in the doors will probably be back in a year or two... we'll see.

Cool

I'm glad the truck was in another state when that flood happened! We flew home to go on vacation from Louisville, KY. Lucky us! I'm going in to the dealer tomm. morning first thing for plugs and wires. I'm going to ask them what their position is then. Wish me luck,,,,98

Smile

They will fix it for free, but I have to spring for the rental car. The rental is probably going to outweigh the cost of the repair. You just can't win sometimes, sigh,,,,,98

So instead of going without my truck or renting another while it was being repaired, I traded it for an identical 2001. I don't want to think about what I'm going to do if this one starts to rust.

Thumbs down

Well, I'm glad I waited a little longer(still under 6/75 warranty, though) Now the doors have begun to rust along the top as well??! With the cracks, and the rust, I wonder how hard it would be to get them to replace the doors? The passenger door has started cracking finally. This is starting to get to me now ,,,,98

YESSS!! Major good news. I didn't have time to go in when they said it was okay the first time. I went in again last week, and it was a whole different story, I was S.O.L.!! I went there one more time this week, and got a completely different svc. writer. Not only can I bring it in after the mileage is up on the warranty, but I also get a Ford Focus rental for $13 a DAY!! All is right with the world now, no way I'm missing this opportunity Thank goodness for the T.A.P.S program, whatever it is, lol! I know no one has responded to this thread for quite some time, but I had to let everyone know the good news!,,,,,98

I am driving to St. Louis for two weeks this weekend. There was NO way I was going to make it, with just under 70k

for those of you out of warranty you might want to check into por-15 products at por15.com they are one of the few aftermarket things out there that actually work the way the say they will. i have used it to repair holes with their por15 mat also, awsome stuff.

Yep, brush off the loose stuff and dirt, and paint it right on. POR-15 is the easiest to use rust cure ever,,,,98
