2010 Rocker Panel Replacement

I just thought I'd share some pictures of my recent rocker panel replacement project. The vehicle is a 2010 SuperCab. Both rocker panels were rusted through. Currently the inner rocker panels are on backorder from Ford until sometime in September. Since I couldn't wait four months, and probably much longer, I fabricated my own. The pictures show the passenger side replacement. Both were done at the same time. The driver side was significantly rustier than the passenger side but I don't have as many pics.

Looks great. After cutting one apart, what do you feel causes the rustout? It doesn't appear that there is any double panels or foam to hold water. I've heard that the electrical boots in the jamb can be the leak that allows water into the rocker. I wonder if spraying the inside with oil would cover enough to protect from future rust.

I wish I knew how water got in there. There's no evidence that it came through the electrical boots or the third brake light. I will take a better look at the electrical boots. I sealed the third brake light years ago.

The inner rocker panel and the outer rocker panel are spot welded together near the door striker. I can see how water would sit between the panels. One of the earliest signs of rust was the paint bubbling up near the striker. This started when the truck was about three years old.

All my new work is primed and painted with Rustoleum. I used weld thru primer on the bare spots where I welded. I then sprayed about a pint of Fluid Film in each rocker cavity. I plan to re-spray them a couple of times a year.

F150 2010 Rocker Panel

Good Morning:

I purchased a 2010 Ford F150 SuperCab from the dealership with a 5 day return policy. This truck is in great shape with the exception of the drivers side rocker panel that we never noticed until we brought it home. The dealership wants to negotiate a price reduction for me so they can keep the deal. My question is: Approximately how much is the cost to replace this panel? I want to use it in my negotiating with the dealership. Thank you.
