Have a showroom condition 99 Expedition with 58,000 miles on it. Last week the left rear tire decided to throw its tread at freeway speed. It tried desperately to spin, but I fought it down to a stop, without hitting anyone or anything. The remaining carcass held air long enough for me to wobble off the freeway to get the spare on. There was considerable damage to the left rear quarter panel, a lot of damage. Now dealing with body shop and insurance company we are of course dealing with value vs repair costs , which after several days of back and forth. wound up the repair is just shy of $100.00 more then trucks value. Ins co and body shop will work it so it will be repaired, but I am blown away by the cost of quarter panel replacement, over $4500.00. Lots of labor to do this the right way.
