Need Help Removing/Installing...

I need some help. I'm trying to replace my Grill-Surround, which is chrome, with a new one from the factory that is a color-match.

What is the secret for safely removing those funny flat washers on the underside of the Grill-Surround? I have tried everything short of cutting them off and they don't want to "pop" loose or screw loose. What's the answer?

I suppose I'll have to buy a special tool to remove them and then I probably should buy some new fasteners to install the new one.

Thanks in advance for all the help you can provide:

You can pry them out with a flat head screw driver enough to pull them all the way out with a pair of pliers. Just be very careful not to scratch your paint. I have done this a few times.

Ditto pa_wolf62.

BV...
I recently did the same surround swap and didn't need any tools to remove those but...
...in the past I have used a wide spaced, two-prong, cooking fork.

Slide it between the two materials being "fastened" and gently twist. The fastener will begin to slide out, you can then wiggle it out with a finger or two.

Use thin cardboard, like a match book, between the tool (fork) and all painted surfaces to prevent scratching as required.

BTW, I was glad to get rid of my chrome too!
