I have a red 2001 Supercrew and I want to replace the tailgate. I think the cheapest option that still looks good would be to pull one from a salvage yard. Is the tail gate for mine different that on the reg cab or supercab? Also, I assume I can just take the handle lock cylinder out of my old tailgate and install it in the new one. Any other ideas on how to go about getting a better looking tailgate?

 

Tailgates are swappable. The only exception may be a tailgate off a flareside. Locks cylinder can be moved over.

 

Right. You can't swap from flareside to fleetside, but you can have your pick from any other F-truck bed, F150 all the way up to F350, at least.

Cab configuration is irrelevant.

 

No a f250 and above will not fit. That was true pr 97, but when the body styles diverged things changed. Not even a 2004 F150 and up will fit. Bed depth increased by 2" that year.

 

I don't think a Supercrew tailgate will fit on anything but a Supercrew. I work at a salvage yard and there is 2 different tailgates for 01 f150 fleetside(either SC or not).

What color of Red do you have is it red red or more like a maroon red? Let me know your paint code and I might have a tailgate.

 

It's red red. Not sure of the paint code. I'll have to check.
