keys

hey guys can somebody help. I know this sounds like a dumb question, but when I got my 2011 f-150 I got three keys. Two work to open the doors and start the truck. What does the third one do?

I downloaded the owner's manual and there's nothing obvious in there. Maybe it works in the spare tire lock.

The ignition key works on my spare tire lock. I only got two keys. Can't imagine what the third is for unless maybe the ignition was changed and then it might be for the spare tire.

Do all of the keys work everywhere? Generally you will receive 2 keys w/ fobs. Possible you got some other persons keys also.......

We have a rule against cross posting. Just causes too much confusion. When I can get on my computer, I will need to remove the other post as this one seems to be getting the most replies. If you want this thread moved just send me a PM.

Bluejay, you deleted my post. Shame on you.

Anyway here it is again. If the third key is exactly like the others, then it seems to me it would be a third ignition. If it looks similar, but without the plastic end cap, it may be for a locking gas cap. Since 09 the F150 has come without any gas cap, but many like myself prefer the security of a locking one. Ford has one as an accessory and many have put them on. It is a double sided key like the ignition, but shorter and without the plastic.

Edit - Also, there is a lock in the rear bumper that allows access for the handle to crank down the spare tire. Normally the ignition key is used for this. However, maybe yours is different or has an aftermarket lock.
