Thumbs up Possible Win on door crack preventative

Well first I have to say thanks to those posting TSB'S and other info on the door crack issue. Mine arn't yet 1997 w/ 52,000 miles and Iwent to the dealership to find out about the preventative he said none existed. Iwent back 2 weeks later with TSB in hand that I got from this site GUESS WHAT they called me today and kit is on order and said it is covered no cost to me. Well I will be a believer when all is said and done but prospects look good. They said the install will take 2 days and they would schedule after kit arrived (Thursday or Friday).

Has anyone had the preventative kit installed any problems?

Thanks I will let you know how it goes as far as being completely covered by Ford but they are treating this like a recall

Lightbulb "B" fix

Hey Florida Boy, I'm glad things look positive for you. I went to my dealer yesterday for a recall and mentioned the door fix to him. His reply was that it would'nt be fixed unless the size of the crack was substantial.

Having had similar crappy service there before I had the presence of mind to print out the TSB before going there. When I pointed out that a B fix was available as a preventive measure for those who do not have any cracks (YET), and showed him the actual TSB, his demeanor changed quickly. I got an appointment for Monday morning whereupon they will investigate the situation.

They might still try to jerk me around but I'm not gunna back down 'till it's done.

A great big thanks to all of you here for providing me with the all the advice and info I needed to approach the dealership with confidence! It's a lot harder for them to dismiss you if you come preapared.

Good luck Florida Boy. I'm going to post about my experience, hope you'll do the same.

I took the TSB to my dealer two months ago. Got the preventative fix. Doors don't flex as much now.

Okay, I know that I have seen this rust problem on almost every Ford vehicle with more than 60k miles. I tried searching through the old threads to find the TSB for the 'preventative fix'. Can someone give me a hint where I can find this?
Thanks!
Patrick

Question

On the rusty door issue, my dealer's "truck consultant" told me that if they rust THROUGH before 100,000 miles, they fix them free. We all have 5 year/100,000 miles on painted surfaces.

I now have 86,000 miles on it and am praying the rust goes through. I doubt it will.

I wonder if they'd "fix" or replace a rusted through door that also has a crack?
