fix this dent or fill it?

hey guys, I've had this dent in my truck for probably at least 6 months now. I think I ran over something and it was thrown up against the truck and put the dent in it. I noticed it was starting to develop a little rust on it so I sanded it off today with my drimmel and was going to just paint it with primer to keep the rust off.

But then I got the idea of getting one of those dent puller kits from advanced auto and try to pull the dent out. But since it seems kind of deep I'm just curious if it would pull back out or should I just try to fill it with bondo or duraglass and then just sand it down.

I haven't done much body work at all so I was just wondering what advice you guys would have. thanks for the help!

As deep as that is, I would suggest pulling it. The problem comes from its position, where it will probably need to be hammered out with a body hammer and backing block. Then you can blend in back in with a thin coat of body filler.

That should be easily repairable with a hammer and dolly. Skim coat of filler, sand & prime. Then it will be ready to go when you decide to get it painted. You should never just fill a dent like that with. Eventually it will crack and start to fall out.

At the very least you could go buy some touch up from the dealer. That will provide some corrosion protection until you decide to have the dent fixed and painted. That is better than driving around with a big primer spot on the panel.

I disagree. The front leading edge of an F150 has a reinforcement panel spot welded to it. There is absolutely zero chance of you getting a dollie in behind there. The only way you are pulling that dent is with a unispotter, or by drilling a one inch hole carefully through the reinforcement panel, and bumping it out as best you can. That said, that panel is not mild steel, and drilling it could be a PITA. That said, even if you do take it somewhere to get it unispotted out, you need to make sure they drilled a small access hole to put some corrosion resistor on the back side of the little burn marks a unispotter makes.

It's small, but it ain't easy without the right tools. I will agree on one thing though, driving around with primer is a real bad idea though. Primer has no UV protection, and begins to break dowm at first exposure. Not to mention that it acts more like a sponge than you would believe, and by itself will do a poor job of preventing rust.

I's gonna get worse before it gets better.
