How to do door hinges 1997-2003
Alright I just finished my door hinges on my 1998 2door 2wd f-150 it took me 3 hours with dinner and a few cold ones here’s how to do it you cannot do it with the fender on the bolts are too long and I couldn’t find any how to’s on the sites so here we go
Specialty tools
1. windshield wiper tools (princess auto 1.99 or 2.99)
2. a fork its called a door panel tool for removing dart clips
3. air ratchet helps but is not necessary
Instructions
1. IMPORTANT put a few pieces of tap on the fender and hood and fender and door and door and cab make a marker line the slice tape with knife so both can move feely
2. remove centre cap and tire
3. remove windshield wipers and cowling ( 2 metal clips 4 screws and 1 dart)
4. pull out inner fender and foam look towards door and you see the foam (5 screws 4 darts)
5. remove rocker protector (2 darts)
6. remove head lights
7. remove marker lights 1 screw each top inside fender
8. remove plastic cover over radiator and hood latch (unscrew clips)
9. remove grill 10 (6 on top 2 behind marker lights) screws and 8 darts (this is wear your need the door panel fork)
10. now your ready to pull the fender on there is 11 screws, 4 on top under hood, 1 under headlight just above bumper, 2 behind the marker light , 2 at the rocker just in front of the door and 2 inside the fender behind where the foam was.
11. GREAT fender is off put a block of wood just under the lip of the door with its closed like the picture and just put a little tension on it with the jack this with stop the little bit of dropping from the latch play
12. remove top hinge with door close and locked DON’T OPEN IT remove all 5 bolts put the new one on put all the bolts hand snug starting with the 2 door bolts then the cab tighten in the same order door bolts then cab bolts or else you will pull the door over with it
13. check your tape and maker lines on the door jam (mine didn’t move PERFECT RIGHT)
14. do the same process for the bottom hinge door bolts first then jam bolts
15. check your marker lines if it move adjust it now but it shouldn’t have
16. sit back and drink a beer I had dinner
17. Repeat the process in reverse to install good luck guys remember take your time putting the fender back on tape up the door and fenders where they meet to stop scratching.
