97 worth fixing?

Got rear ended today by kid looking at his GPS while I was waiting to turn left. Bent the frame where the hitch attaches to the frame. Buckled the frame and turned down the bumper facing the ground. Bed is bent, too. It is pretty rusty under there. I know it is early. I haven't contacted his insurence company yet. Just wondering if insurence will total the truck. I don't know how much work it is to repair. What do the body shops do in this case? Do they straighten the frame or cut it and replace part of the frame?
Truck is 1997 F150 2WD 4.2L XLT 199,260 Miles.
Thanks

If I liked the truck enough to keep it then yes, it's worth it. Just because dummy wants to play with his gps shouldn't have to involve you. Sometimes, they give you a decent amount for a write off so see whats going on.

Depending on how bad it's kinked will tell the tale. is it behind the shackles? pretty easy fix back there. BUUUTTT... A 2wd with 200k makes me think you're gonna be shopping for a truck. Let us know what happens. Good luck!

Yeah with 200k and if the frame damage is pretty extensive they are probably just gonna cut you a check.

def. sounds like a total to me.

nada shows clean retail of around $5000. Insurance will usually not exceed %75 of that value to fix the vehicle.

Truck was totaled by insurance co. Will give me $4175 for it. Now I have my eye on a 2007 F150 extended cab with 4 wheel drive.

Hope you are satisfied with that. You know you couldn't have sold it for that much. The GPS guy did you a favor!
