miller and lincoln both make excellent products. you can't go wrong with either one. As far as gas goes, where i get mine from, the little keg tanks they sell you and cost about 10 bucks to refill. The stargon tanks you have to rent cuz you get a different one every time cuz they have to get tested and replaced periodically. yearly rent plus refills. If you aren't gonna weld every day i'd go with the co2.

Thanks allot man, that's what I'm going to do. I built my exhaust with just a flux core and a few panels. So a better Mig w/gas will most likely be a treat lol.

Appreciate it.

Hey, do you have any recommendations for a good HVLP gun ? I'm going to shoot it myself as well (the entire truck). Definitely don't want gun problems after I start. I've seen cheap and expensive, - nothing really in the middle.

Umm as far as budget ones go i'm not sure. I'll look tomorrow at what's available. I think a kid I work with has a sharpe that wasn't too much he likes. I personally use devilbiss GTI's with a 1.3 tip for base and a 1.5 tip for clear. They go about $425. I tried a sata-jet rp and really liked it but not enough to dump $800 on it.

Yea, I want to get a half way decent gun. There's quite a few $50 specials out there lol. I don't think I need top of the line, I want a good one definitely. I'm committed to the project now, I don't mind investing a little on tools. Farming this job out would have cost a small fortune lol. So spending a little for the right stuff doesn't bother me a bit.

So you like the Devilbiss. Sounds good.

Thanks again.

NO!! Not that one! Get the GTI! Suction feed guns have gone the way of the dinosaur. Get the gravity fed, cup over gun. I didn't know they still made suction feed guns.

Right, - just testin yuh buddy . But they still sell them, believe it or not

DeVilbiss has quite a few nice options and not that bad on price. Allot of Two gun deals in the $200 range, Yes, gravity fed lol and the right tips included...

Fortunately for me, I'll be shooting Oxford White for base ehh. :o

EDIT: - I know what I was going to ask yuh! , -Have you tried one of those Stitch Welders yet ? That stick welder attachment. That deal with the reduction diode that cuts the output by half, - and lets you use AC arc. 80 amp and under I guess, -slices 80 to 40 / 60 - 30 or whatever your set at. Seems like that might be a time save,- since it reduces the heat by almost 1/2. Iduno, I haven't read to much about them.

I have no knowledge of this other than what you just told me. Sounds like something I'd like to play around with though(on someone else's tab of course). Oxford white is an easy color to shoot. What brand are you using? Oh yeah, what did this thread start out as anyhow?

I can't recall what this thread was about? I stole it tho

Toyz won't mind... I hope.

Eastwood Company sells them. They have their own welding line I believe , make their own welders and such. Their about $80 , - unless you have a account with eBay, - I've see them for $25/$35. I'll find them real quick, here's a few Stitchers on ebay, -

http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...welders&_rdc=1

SW for everything, -base /clear. I won't pick that up until she' ready to shoot. Unless I take the time to figure out the promoter/weather/climate conditions formula, they use. I know that figures in somewhere.

Yea, and their right down the road as well. Thanks for your help stewy. I let you know how that stitcher works out, - if I find a little arc worth buying. Mann, I'm drueling over some of those Migs, Miller's the most. Their a little pricey compared to the Lincolns. I've known both are good machines. I took a class many years ago offered thru a vocational program and the school used Millers, -that was an arc class. Seemed like anyone that I new who was into allot of welding had a Miller. I guess that's why I'm leaning more toward one of those. I wouldn't mind finding an older machine in good shape as well. Might get more for the money that way.

I'm confident with putting the paint down, I want to get the prep solid, so that it lasts. There's a sort of debate about first coat primers and about what to work with before the first primer coat or high build coat. Self Etching, Pore15 or just "Rust Encapsulator". It's been said that a good encapsulator will out preform P15. (?). I've incorporated self etching myself with a high build after. I've found a little rust coming thru in one area at the seem where it was welded. Self etching didn't work that well, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Thanks for your help.
