Are there differences in construction by region of the country?

Hello to all.
I'm in the market for a newer ('04 to '08) F150. I live in the upper Midwest and I have concerns about body rust on a used truck so I've been looking in the western states as well.

I have heard that Ford builds trucks a little different depending on the region of the country that it is destine for. Specifically, I heard that the trucks that go to the western region will be more susceptible to corrosion if brought back to the midwest where the salt and ice melt is used.

Is there any validity to this rumor of should I just get a truck in my area in good condition and invest in some undercoating?

As far as I know, that's only a rumor.

I think there are some Ford employees on the forum that may be able to say for sure.

That sounds ridiculous. There may be differences due to manufacturing facility, but I cant imagine that they would add or remove a corrosion treatment due to which part of the country they are shipping to...

BUT, common sense tells me that one should never rule anything out. You just never know...

i'm not an expert..but i did watch a show, where ford as a part of their marketing, follows trends, in different parts of the country, and world. for sales preferances..differant places like certian colors and options more..example..the northwest has the highest number of trucks with sun/moon roofs..i would doubt though they add rust protection unless it is dealer applied....like on 'fargo' "the true coat"

At one time long ago they used to make different engine block with more nickel I think it was so it wouldn't crack as easy if over heated. But as of today they are all the same
