Smile Bed Removal for rust repair.

Hey Guys,

New to the forum, great stuff so far.

I have an 01' F-150 super cab, Long Bed, 4x4. I bought the truck in North East ohio so there is a fair amount of rust in the bed. There is one problem area in particular that i want to work on.

I am planning on
1. Removing the bed (prolly gonna have to cut the bolts).
2. Cutting out the bad rust spot and welding in a new piece of metal.
3. Grinding out all the surface rust on the bottom of bed as well as inside the bed.
4. Coating the underside of the bed with some kind rust repelent product.
5. Rolling in a DIY bed liner.

My questions are.
1. What do i need to treat the bare metal with before the roll in liner.
2. Can i use generic carriage bolts to put the bed back on.
3. ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS ARE MORE THAN APPRECIATED.

Thanks
Matt
