question about side mirrors

I busted the right hand side mirror off of my 2001 ford f150 supercrew and I was looking for a new one and found a lot of black ones, but mie has red on the front side of it. I'm wondering if you can open it up and remove that red piece and move it to the new mirror.

The covers can be changed, but I'm pretty sure the glass (and it's plastic frame) must be removed to unclip the cover from the inside. The glass is held into the mirror housing by a ball in the center of the back of the mirror which snaps into a socket in the mirror housing.

correct the covers can easily change over. just make sure the mirror your buying has the exchangeable cover and its not molded in.
