Beating a really really dead horse

Well I was just looking around at things, and now realized that I should not have been. I came up on this..

https://www.f150online.com/articles/cracks2.html

After seeing this article, and then doing a search on it. I realized that the crack in the door thing was a big time issue. So... I just had to go out there to see if mine had a crack in it. Sure enough I have myself a big ol' crack and some rust that I never knew was there . Well I am not too excited about it, and so now that I am thinking about it... I wonder if Ford still fixes the door cracks.

I had heard about it and then one day it appeared on my old 98. At the time the dealership wanted $5-600 to fix it and would not guarantee it would stay fixed. I did not go through with it and no longer have that truck for a different reason. (I totaled it)

Ouch man. That sucks. I want to get it fixed because its rusting. I was thinking that I could get a door shell from a newer model truck, because supposedly they fixed the problem on the newer trucks.

What did you end up doing? I've noticed it on mine before but always forget to look into it later.

I have not done anything. I ask around and I got quoted $1,000 to fix it properly which would mean replacing the door shell. Not a big enough deal to mess with for a grand.

Its about about 3 inches up the window. Its not noticeable really until you are looking for it. I have walked by the truck and NEVER noticed till I saw something about it on the internet.

Yeah, it will get bigger over time, but I have never seen one longer then an inch. Not worth the money to fix in my opinion.

I'm glad I stumbled across this one. I checked my doors this morning, and, thankfully, no cracks. However, there is a section right where the picture shows the crack that I can feel a difference in the thickness of the metal. I have a 2000, does this affect me, or did they have a fix by then? Also, when cleaning the roof, I noticed a lot of cracks in the crevice lines that run the length of the roof. They do not appear to be cracks in the metal, but rather cracks in the paint. Is this the cracking on the roof that is mentioned? I am stopping by the dealership tonight, and enquiring about this as well, but would appreciate any feedback you guys might have. Thanx, all.

No sir. The cracks in your paint are exactly that. The door crack is literally a crack in the metal.

Thanx, B2therad. Luckily I don't have the door cracks YET. I will be looking into the dealership to see if there was a fix authorized for my 2000. It seems somewhere I read something about roof cracks. Do you know offhand is there was a problem relating to cracks in the metal on the roof on any models?
