Wrecked Clear Coat

Hey, my clear coat on my tonneau cover is destroyed and i kinda want to fix it myself. I was wondering what the best way of doing that would be. Can i sand the edges and then just spray on some clear coat? It doesnt have to be superb cause i dont really like my tonneau cover, but i just want to protect the paint.

It started as a quarter-sized hole until i visited the car wash and forgot about it.

Thanks.

You could possibly just do it the way you suggested but it will still show pretty badly. The only way to get it back to the way it was is to sand it down and respray the clear with a proper gun, not a rattle can.

Your best bet is to take it to someone who paints for a living.

If it were mine Id wetsand it with 600, the whole cover. Then hit it with 2 or 3 coats of clear. But Ive painted cars before and have all the proper equipment. Theres about a million things you can do wrong when spraying automotive paint.

Its still gonna be tricky to feature edge that and not have it show up in the new clearcoat
