Overhead Rail System Help !
Overhead Rail System Help !
I just purchased an overhead rail system from a salvaged 2004 F-150. My 2008 didn't come with one and I always regretted not having the dealer add it. I've figured out that everything in the front will fit because my XLT already has an overhead console and the front rail system console is pretty much identical. My issue is the rear dome light/rail system anchor. Can anyone out there with a factory or dealer installed overhead rail system possibly take a photo of it with the dome light unit taken off (like if you had to replace a bulb). All you have to do is grab opposite sides of the map lights and pull straight down. All that's holding the light on is two clips. I need a photo of what the hole in the headliner looks like and some dimensions/measurements if possible. If anyone out there can do this, I'd really appreciate it.
I just bought a rail system as well and it seems that it won't work in my XLT. When I pulled down the overhead console in my truck the hole that is in the headliner is huge. Way too large for the one on the rail system, so I guess I am stuck with another unusable upgrade for my truck.
I have an XLT as well and the hole will be covered by the one storage bin that mine came with. I'm assuming that your rail system didn't come with any. There are some on eBay for around $50.
Ok, the pics are in an album. The rough measurements for the main cutout are 10 1/4"w by 4 1/2"L. The Cut widens to 11 1/4"w by 3/8" in length at the front to allow the steel to clear and you may need to do more trimming where the rails come in from the front, I didn’t take them off to measure that cutout. I hope this helps.
I also remember a guy doing a walk through about putting the DVD in his truck over the summer. He had the headliner taken down with a ton of pics you might want to do a search for that.

Btw, bigal721, I did search the forums and found the DVD installation pics you mentioned. They were good and I put that link in my "favorites" list, but none of them are nearly as good as yours. Thanks again.
