Painting chrome bumper

Currently my bumper and most of my grill is chrome. I want to go all black, black all over the truck.

Whats the best way to paint the bumper, or should I have it painted by a professional?

It might be cheaper to find one that is already painted black? or your gonna have to sandblast the chrome off and then have it painted.

Yeah, I'll probably just get it sandblasted and painted to match my truck. I'm really picky when it comes to color matching and such.

You should definitely try and find another bumper that is already black. Call wreck yards, go on ebay, you should be able to find one that would save you time and money. Or make a new forum seeing if anyone wants to trade bumper for bumper...idk it might work. But I don't suggest sand blasting the chrome off and painting it yourself, its a lot of work.

the shop here, quoted me 350 to blast the front and rear bumpers and epoxy paint to match. that was me bringing in just the bumpers.

that's the upper bumper cover, not the actual bumper.

I am going to do this in the spring, time to get ride of the chrome.

Local shop will sandblast and power coat for $225.00 for both bumpers.

You can do it yourself but I don't think it will last as long or look as good.

I ran across this...

I think it would be a good project to do yourself but for the price I was quoted I am going to let the shop do it.

I talked to a guy at a local paint shop, and this is what he told me to do.

Wipe the chrome down with Alcohol

Then take a DA with some 80 grit paper and remove most of the shine.

Wipe with alcohol again

Then get some real real good primer, the stuff he said to buy would "bite to bricks"

spray your bumper w/e color

clear coat

wetsand

He showed me a picture of his and it looked pretty good.
