did you read the entire thread and not just the one post that i linked?

it requires some major modification to the navi mirror housings, the brackets, and the wiring pigtails, not to mention an adapter plate so it mounts up to the 04+ doors.

Ahhh, now I did. Not such a plug and play deal after all I see! I guess that's why you don't see that mod running around all over. That was quite a bit of work you put into that mod. I see what you mean by being a pain in the **** getting all the right parts and having to fab the rest up. Ford could have been a little bit nicer and kept the wiring part the same at least If I can find the parts for the right price like you ran across I'll think about it again. Until then there's always something that needs modification right

Pat, the mirrors i like for rounder style trucks like your own are the pontiac G5 and the cobalt mirrors. They look sharp and edgy as well as having a roundness to them, i would so put those on an OBS truck. they have a paintable insert as well, but after you cut them up so much, why not PTM everything lol.
A friend has a baggged colorado that they would look killer on.

yea i just like a little bit more of a solid look to them. I guess its the thickness if you are looking at them from the sides that i like....

these are the ones im looking at getting. I will shorten the length of the mirror a little bit.

OP: you want to give me your old mirror bases for my project

yea the taurus mirrors do look pretty sporty. Get the lesser trim full faced ones like in your pic and paint them, not the ones with the painted skull caps. I hear the skull caps are really weak and come off easily. My boss' wife has a taurus and one of her painted caps fell off a long time ago, and there are a few around town with only one cap as well. I doubt all of them accidently knocked them off.

The OE mirrors wont do you any good.
the base is solid cast aluminum from the mounting position to where teh mirror swivels. It would be very hard to transplant that to the new mirror, unless you cut a whole lot off and then weld the aluminum to the new mirror base.
Just do the mounting pad/adapter like i did, its a whole lot easier and provides a solid mount.
Good luck and pm me or email me if you run into trouble.

Heres the g5 mirror, and after looking at it, it may be too sharp of a look for your truck, the taurus looks better.
