Painted Rear Molding Black
Painted Rear Molding Black
I know a thread is useless without pics, but I'm on vacation so I can't post pics!!
Anyway, my 97 had that worn out/faded look rear molding, and it has been bothering me. It didn't look right on the money green color of my 150. So I took one whole saturday, completely masked the whole thing off, and my truck was literally covered in masking tap and masking paper. After sanding it down with 220 grit, I then used wax and grease remover to take off all the grease so there wasn't any fish eyes or dirt showing. I then sprayed Duplicolor "Exterior Molding/Trim Paint" in black onto the molding. I took my time and did a very light coat. Light enough that you can see through to the other color (Keep in mind this was on a 90 degree day). After about ten minutes of that drying, I then put the second coat on heavily. Be sure not to spray to much in one spot, for that will cause sagging. After that coat I added two more coats on mdeium to make sure every area was covered.
After about four - five coats (didn't apply clear cloat) I unmasked the tape and masking paper. Stood back behind the tailgate, and I must say, it looks factory. You cant even tell it was painted.
It has a very low gloss to it. I didn't want too much of a close for it wouldn't look right. No clear coat was added, but it looks awesome. I will post pics when I get home tomorrow.
Thanks to this forum for the help
