What is frame undercoating?

I was reading through how to clean the frame and it said to be careful to not eat through the frame undercoating while cleaning. I was curious the other weekend because my frame looked kinda dirty compared to other newer trucks I had seen who had nice and shiny black painted frames. I took some wd40 on a paper towel and wiped a small part on the underside of my frame and I got to the silver area of my frame. There were a few other silver areas where a hydraulic lift had lifted my truck up and smashed away the oil/grease on the frame. Is it bad that I did this?

Sorry if this is a dumb qustion

no. frame undercoating is just a protector that they put on the frame to keep it from rusting. just expensive crap cause it doesnt really do anything and ends up getting scraped off. its nothing to worry about. if you want to cover up those spots just spray it with some black spray paint

did you scrape off all the undercoating and how did you clean it before spray painting?

What paint did you use and how many cans?

Thanks!
