I would check with Ford first to get a new gasket, it can't cost that much.

I bought some foam tape for Home Depot and applied it to the truck and the bottom of the light. It sealed it up great. You could use silicone but if you need to replace your bulb it will be a pain cutting it all off without scratching your truck up.

Here is what I bought.

I went to Home Depot and bought "Door and Window High Density Foam Tape Weatherstrip, 3/16" Thick, 3/8" wide x 17' long for a few dollars. I attached it to the metal of the truck where it would be lined up to the foam on the underside of the light assembly and no more leaks. Just run it all the way around the rectangular opening and then tighten the screws down to seal it up. I dumped a gallon of water all over the 3rd brake light and into the slot where the wire comes out and no leaks.

The one that I bought was Item # 02253 http://www.mdteam.com/products.php?category=221

Leaking Third Brake Light

I agree, the weatherstripping that is avail at wallyworld or homedopee is a great fix but you run the risk of another leak. Why not install LED bulbs in your old housing or order a new led type housing, then you will feel safe about running a silicone bead around it because it will be LED and will probably never burn out for years to come. Good luck!
