I ordered a power side mirror to replace a damaged one on my 2001.

The body-color skullcap on the original is undamaged. I would like to use it on the new mirror in place of the basic black plastic skullcap.

Can this be done?

The skullcap appears to be a separate piece, but without wrecking the old mirror (which is still in service) to see how the pieces fit together, I can't tell if it can be removed.
