driving w/tonneau cover open?

hey guys, i have a quick question. i'm helping a buddy move this weekend and he has a few large items i have to put in the bed of my truck. my problem is i have a leer 700 fiberglass tonneau cover and was wondering what do I do about driving with it up. first off is it ok to drive with it fully up? will it harm the cover? also, is there anyway to lock it as close down to the items or does it have to stay all the way up? thanks in advance.

if its fully up, it might put some stress on the hinges, but thats about it. ive seen plenty of people drive with them up

i wont hurt the cover but if you do it too much, the hinge by the cab will break. Thats what happened to my dads because he drives with it up a lot. when you drive the air will push the cover down and it bang on your items, so you can just put a bungee from the strap on the cover down to your hitch and it will hold the cover tight

i like it. i dont really use it to much. basically got it to keep people from throwing crap in my bed, and so no one steals my stuff from the back. i like the way it looks and so far has performed well.

Driving with an open tonneau cover can be dangerous for a number of reasons. First, it can be difficult to see out of the back of the truck bed, making it hard to judge following distances and changing lanes. Second, loose items in the bed can shift around and become projectiles if the truck hits a bump or makes a sudden stop. Finally, an open tonneau cover can increase drag on the truck, making it harder to accelerate and increasing fuel consumption. For these reasons, it's important to make sure that the tonneau cover is securely closed before hitting the road.
