Weather Stripping

Just put new door weather stripping in on my 84' F150. Everything fit just like it should.
However, now it is hard to get the door to close all the way. I have to slam the doors shut with a good amount of force to get both latches to catch. Is this something normal with new weatherstripping? Does it just have to wear in first?
I don't mind having to slam the door, but I'm not sure how capable my passengers will be of remembering they have to slam it HARD to get it to close completely. Would also feel a little more comfortable knowing the door will be completely latched without having to superman it closed.

Sounds like you might just be use to the old worn out weather stripping when shutting the door. Now there is some thickness to the new stuff. My guess is the new weather stripping just needs a break in period.

You can adjust the latch at the post.

I was expecting a tighter seal with the new stripping, thus maybe having to put a little more effort into closing it. But right now is kinda rediculous. If you don't put a large amount into closing the door, it will only catch one latch, so you have to open it again and slam it a lot harder to get both to latch.

Yeah I one of my mechanic friends that helps me sometimes came up to my work so I asked him about it. He said I can adjust the latch post thing. I don't have a torx big enough to fit it though so I have to go buy one first. Don't see how it is adjustable though, but I guess I will know once I unbolt the post.

Once you loosen the torx post it will slide in or out about an inch. I put new weatherstripping in my 93 f150 last year and replaced those torx pins as well. they wear out over time and you can buy them at any auto parts store. it takes a while to get them adjusted right but its worth it.

Thanks! Gonna try to find a torx tomorrow to fit the post. The post were replaced not too long before I bought the truck, so they should be good for awhile. Really gotta get it adjusted asap though, don't want to lose any passengers
