Spots Near Key Hole

Well I think this has something to do with going through the automatic car wash - we're under a watering ban and cannot use water outdoors for anything - and the local "hand wash and detailing" place gets more complaints than compliments.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? It is only on the handles with keyholes (driver's door and tailgate on my SuperCrew). Anyone think there is a chance I could pop off the handles and fix this?

Thanks!

Simplegreen, soft bristle toothbrush, follow up with 303. (looks like it's weeping some sort of lube for the locks......)

It's oil being leeched out of the lock cylinders by whatever they're putting in the water. You should put more lube INTO the cylinders, and put something on the plastic so it doesn't wick the lube out. Like Armor-All...

Can this be done by removing the door panel or would I need to pull the entire handle assembly off of the door? Any suggestions on which type of lube to use or where I could find out?

Thanks!

Just shoot some light oil (like maybe 3-in-1, but not WD40) or powdered graphite into each key slot. Any parts store & many hardware stores (including Wal-Mart) have lock lubes.

Thanks for the replies! I'll probably stop by the hardware store tomorrow for the lubricant and some back-to-black to help hide the leaking lube - it's about time for the mirrors and such to have another coat anyway!
