Question Door Ajar light comes on when window is down on 2000 f150

It just happened one day... driving down the road and the light comes on then off and on and off and on and off no pattern at longer intervals. I thought something was stuck in the door....no .... is there a switch in the door thats sticking? .... no so then i notice days later that it does not happen when window is up so i start using ac and life is good.... then it starts happening with the window up. It keeps getting worse and the interior lights come on and off with the light. then my starter dies and when i get it in the shop i ask them to lookat it and fix it .... no problem replace the door switch and an hours labor...Get it Back the next day and same problem only now the window sticks....(bad job by lentz) so i take it back to them to fix it and the starter would grind sometimes so the said it was a bad starter and they just reassembled the door wrong...ok..... But i asked them is it out of there skill level? "oh no we well fix it right this time"... get it back the second time and same thing with a fixed window... only when the window is up no light......help please what is going on is it simple just bad mechanic or major problem? tried wd40 did not work.

Door Ajar Light

Oh, do I feel your pain!!! My 1999 F-150 is really bad especially when the cold weather comes.

My alarm and lights will flicker on and off constantly. I can go a few months with no problem and one day out the blue I'll have a disco while driving. I took the truck into the dealer twice...they adjusted the door jams, greased the hinges, and replaced both jam switches...still didn't help. When parked, the wind can activate the interior and bed lights or I can simply turn the lights on by inserting the key in the door hole!!

The delears were unable to fix the problem so one day I went into both door panels and unplugged the switches. This fixed the problem for about two weeks until the problem came back!!!! I figure that the issue is some place up stream of the switches but I'm not about to drop a ton of money to have somebody locate the problem.

I no longer have interior lights with the door open unless I manually turn them on via the dial switch. When the problem is REALLY bad in the winter, I simply unplug the large relay in the fuse panel.

Let me know if your mechanic can find the real problem because it sounds like we are suffering from the same mystery issue.

check to see if your door ajar switch is still in one piece... the window regulator could be contacting the grounding piece of a broken switch causing this to happen...
