Exclamation Suggestions on replacing taillight?

My drivers side taillight got cracked, and here in the commonwealth of VA that means I fail my saftey inspection. Anyone know how to replace? I got the new lens, and it seems like it just bolts right in, but I dont want to take the chance of cracking the new one as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Gotribe31@hotmail.com.
Thanks!

AL

Year?

2004+ ... two 10 mm (I think that's the size) bolts on the inner lip from where you lower the tailgate. The tail then just pops straight back and off.

1997-2003 ... same thing I believe. It's cake.

if its the first time they've ever been removed, as in not even being removed by a mechanic or shop to replace bulbs and what not, then it can be a little hard to budge at first. But, RP is correct that there should be just the two screws/bolts and you're set.

I've removed mine several times to clean around the edges and the body parts that are hidden under there as well as some wiring adjustments.

Piece of cake!

Just like you said, 2 10 mm bolts after you lower the tailgate, then it just pops out. Unplug the bulbs, twist the base to remove, and then put the bulbs in the new one, pop it in, reinsert your bolts, and you are done. FYI, with my new one, the holes for the bulb had just a bit too much plastic from the mold, just had to take a pocketknife or even a flathead screwdriver to trim the excess off before one of the bulbs would fit. Best part was that I went to AutoZone first, and the guy told me the part was $130 new, $120 from a junkyard. Then I found it for $25 brand new on the internet at a parts store the next day. Crazy how these guys can get away with crap like that. Anyways, thanks to all for the replies!

Also your bulbs will last longer if you don't touch them. Hold them with a cloth.
