Replacing Driver Side Power Mirror
Replacing Driver Side Power Mirror
I got a question. I recently did something totally stupid and backed my 2005 f150 into a mailbox breaking my driver side mirror off. It snapped off at the plastic which allows the plastic casing to bend one way or the other. The wires broke off too. I was wondering if how complicated it would be to buy a replacement and hook it up, or would it be easier to take it to a ford dealer to replace it. Also if anyone would know approximately how much it would cost one way or the other. It is a powered mirror without the turn signals, so the wiring is all ready there. Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

All I can tell you is that a dealer replaced a mirror on one of my company '05's with the turn signals and heatand it cost about $800 CDN installed (about $650usd).
I found this one online for you

$80 with shipping isn't that bad.

Broken Mirror
Ski,
Okay, first post ever. Just bought '01 SCREW 4.6L 4WD with a crack in the OEM driver's side mirror, so I'm hunting for the same directions.
However, I started out in life as a mechanic, and most of the time you can't just start pulling off door panels if you don't know what you are doing. Even if you have done it on other cars or trucks, there are always some tricks you need to know. There also may be special tools. Good news is that the special tools are usually really cheap. Guys who have done it before can get the door panel off in less than five minutes and they usually don't break anything. Guys who have never done it before take much longer, and they usually break something. For example, I went to a professional auto stereo place and bought the top of the line Clarion with all the trimmings... and the dudes busted my door panel hardware on my Honda Accord.
So, the shop manual is a critical piece. I just looked on www.helminc.com and it looks like the shop manual for my truck is $180.00. That's really too expensive, but I'll pay that if I can't get one on eBay; because I'm going to do most of my own work. If you do that, the manual will pay for itself. Some of the aftermarket manuals can offer good instruction, but they are often not comprehensive... So, the factory manuals are great, but they are also often poorly written... but still have all (or at least 98%) of the answers.
I may try to replace my mirror without instructions because I've had a lot of door panels off in my lifetime... but I would MUCH rather locate the instructions before I proceed.
If' I find anything, I'll come back here and post again. Good luck!
