2000 rear window seal problem

Got tired of my rear seat getting wet whenever it rained or i washed my truck. Took it to a local guy with a body shop to fix the problem. I picked the truck up today and he said a bunch of dirt and crap was in the (inner) seal and made it worth crap, so they cleaned and put a new one in. Now upon further inspection of my truck, i looked between the rear window plastic trim piece on the outside and the cab to look at the rubber seal (outer?). It was the same as before, rolled off where it looks like it is supposed to be and not doing much good....

Now... if that seal was where it was supposed to be... wouldn't that keep the dirt and other crap getting inside and ruining the inner seal?

The rubber seal on the outside is just cosmetic. behind the glass is a seal of butyl tape that seals the glass to the cab. You can't see this from the outside. If you look inside te cab around the galss you can ee if the frame of the glass is tight up against the cab.

I also have a 2000 Ford F-150 that is leaking into the cab through the upper portions of the rear window. The seal between the plasitic housing around the rear window and the metal of the cab has slid down and there is a visible gap there where water seems to be leaking in. Can this rear window seal or rubberized foamlike stuff be replaced by removing the plastic housing? How is this repaired or replaced or should I put some putty or sealant in there? Any ideas? Need to put a babyseat back there soon Please help. Thanks.

it is the frame that the windows mount into that breaks, it is because it is three peices of plastic bonded together. if you look at a later model rear window(i think like 00&^) you can see it is one peice. and there is no seal that i am aware of the window is BOLTED in with butal tape(urathane on a roll about the size of a sharpie marker)
______________there is a seal but it is pretty much cosmetic____
