2005 Ford F-150 Bug Deflector - Installation?

I have I have a 2005 F-150 Supercrew xlt. I got the smoke colored low profile bug deflector direct from the dealerships part dept but the directions are not that good. Could some give me a good detailed step by step on how to Install. I believe you have to take off the whole guard not just the black portion correct? What worries me is I see that their are two clips that you put on at the ends of the bug card and do these clip right onto the hood? If so will those not scratch the paint as I do not want the paint scratch even though at this time it would be under the bud deflector. Any help on a good installation would be appreciated.

1. Loosen the 10 bolts holding the grille to the hood. Enough so you can slide the deflector behind the grille. You don't need to totally remove the grille.
2. Slide the deflector behind the grill and make sure it is centered.
3. Tighten the 10 bolts back up.
4. Look where the wing mount holes are on the hood, and put the plastic tape on the hood at that point.
5. Start the clip (one each side) for the mounting screw over the edge of the hood. Use a rubber mallet to seat the clip over the plastic tape.
6. Screw thru the mounting hole of the deflector onto the clip. Don't over tighten or you can crack the plastic.

Thank you, So the tap goes on top of the hood which then will protect the paint from the clip that is put on correct?

The clear tape goes around the edge of the hood lip. Over and under. It protects the paint that is visible when closed and what you can't see.

Hi,

I bought a OEM low profile bug shield 2004-08 and put it on my 08 f150 yesterday. The clip on the left side was a bear to install, I think the screw is to short, or the hole in the shield isn't drilled correctly. Got it on but left off the rubber washer that goes on the clip & the black steel washer for the screw.

Buy the way a guy has about 35 bug shields on ebay for $30 plus shipping. This is half the dealer price of about $65 to 70.

I tried to install my bug shield today and the bolts that hold the grille on just spin is there anything i can do to take them off. I used a pair of vise grips but I'm afraid that i might break the bolts off. btw i have a 06 screw
