Solid bed cap?

Hi all!

Don't know if this is the right place to post such question, but admins can move it wherever this is fit.

Has anyone ever saw solid bed caps?

I need one so I can use the bed as stockroom/bedroom and have a small 14' foot aluminum boat attached ONTOP of it. Regular fiberglass won't do it I think, even if the boat itself can be lifted by one man alone.

Problem with the cap is that it usually fits flush on the bed, so you can't have an overarching steel structure attached to the bed sides to lay the boat on above.

My dad had a wooden one back when he was young, but it wasn't real good because mosquitos could get in easily.

It would be a plus if it could be removed easily too.

Thanks!

Get a Fiberglass cap and add ladder bars to it. These go around the cover and over it without touching. Fine for things like aluminum boats, ladders, etc. And you still have inside the bed for camping. The cap fits flush on the bed, the rack has plates that fit between the bed and cap. The racks are attached to these. see them quite often.

Just make sure to get a gap insert for between the tailgate and the bed floor. Also the cap you get should have screens on the sliding windows. Also if using the floor of the bed to lay on, get a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" plywood to lay down so you are not laying on the corrugated metal. Used to camp for a week at a time, no tent, just the bed of the pickup.

Here is one example of what I am talking about.
