Shaved handles, and door popers?

okay so after this happened, i am seriously considering shaving my door handles....

I found a kit on ebay that is for all 4 doors with what seems like everything i need, just doesnt have the handle plates. So im asking what all im getting myself into by doing this. Ill probably go ahead and shave the whole truck, all 5 handles, and all emblems. So yah, i know a little bit about relocation of tailgate handle, but what all is involved on instilation of these door popers, and the actual shaving of the door handles.

Also anyone have a rough estimate of how much it would cost to repaint the whole truck? Like a good paint job, preferably a metallic flake like from factory.

Thanks,
-Patrick

I know a real quality paint job could run $2k - $4k, I dont know anything about the popper kits, but if its mounted at the bottom somebody could also mess with that and get the door popped open I heard, be cool to get your gate motorized to open and close slow

unless ur truck is just a toy and not a daily driver i would advise against getting ur door handles shaved... i used to have them on an s10 and had nothing but problems when bringin it to shops, carwashes, etc... just my .02

Its my only vechicle, and my DD so yah i need something that is effeicient and hopefully problem free. The kit i was looking at, i believed had a lifetime warranty on it.

How hard was the install on your S10, and how much and where did you get your kit from?

Thanks,
-Patrick

Complete paint jobs differ in price depending what part of the country your from and the extent of the painting you want done. We only do paint jobs one way, the right way. We take everything off. I'm doing my 99 Expedition and I'm changing the truck from the factory white to a tu-tone Burgandy and smoke silver. If I had to put a price tag on this job I would say at least $8500 to $10K. I'm also doing a one off rear tail gate spoiler.

Patman, door poppers are cool if you are looking for that effect.

Since your truck is a daily i wouldnt recommend it. I too had them on my S10 blazer wich was a daily and it was a pain in the *** sometimes to access it. the actuator rods/ cables somtimes get loose and have to be adjusted and you have to make sure you run a cable opener incase you have a dead battery or a short of some sort.

If you have good mechanical skills they are not very hard at all to install once you get in the door and check out the mechanisms.

but like i said, on a daily they would be more of a hassle. I was always around outside and needed to get in my truck, but didnt have the keys so i had to go inside to get the keys to open the truck.... etc.
It gets annoying after a while

thats cool FX4Firefighter

I could easily make something like that for little to nothing. Only thing tho i see bad about that if someone was to lock themselves out, and they called "pop-a-lock" or something like that then they still couldnt get in without a spare key or a true locksmith. I look into fabbing something up like that. Problem is tho, i still have some damage under my passenger handle, and the handle doesnt stay flush at the bottom any more. So i still would have to get that fixed.

You think PDR (paintless dent repair) could take care of that? its kinda like a small crease about 1.5" long

yah ive got a spare key (only gets me inside the truck no pats) tucked in a special spot under my truck. put it in a ziplock, wrapped it in duct tape, then tie wrapped it to the frame a couple times.

i think the poppers would be really cool, if you know you can get the paint and all done in your budget go for it, it would be custom and cool. Would you be doing all four doors then?

Or better yet, put a spare to the toolbox to the frame, and put the spare key in the toolbox!
