Shaved antenna

If anybody owns a 97-03 F150, they konw the antenna is way longer than necessary. And nothing says "dorky" like having it flap in the wind. I would like something either shaved or shortened for my truck.

I listen to CDs and MP3s most of the time, so I don't necessarily need to worry about sound quality; but I would like to know if it changes the quality, and how much.

So if anybody has or can find a shaved/shortened antenna and could tell me a little about the set up, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks in advance

Do a search, there is a long topic about it I believe. It's a topic about cheap mods.

But, long story short. I pulled the ball off mine, used clipper and cut it down to about 12 inches, drilled the hole in the ball bigger, and put it back on with JB weld. Looks great, lose about 10%~ reception. Nothing major

A friend of mine shaved his antenna and put the antenna on the inside of his fender. Its runs parrallel to the hood. You could try that, I'm thinking about doing it. It'll make the truck look cleaner.

i bought a shorty antenna from autozone for like 2 bucks. Its nice same reception as stock, and its flexible so when you go fast and stop, its still bent back lol Eventually im gonna shave the whole truck so im not too worried about how it looks right now on stuff like that.

I'm looking at doing that, but in the meantime I'm worried about that hole in the hood where the antenna was. Did he have to get that filled from a body shop?
