How do I remove the mirrors?
I was kinda wondering the same. Actually, only my outer shield, the part that is either body colour or chrome, is loose and want to tighten up. How do you go about it, total removal or partial. Help me out too if you guys could.
If it's a 98, then you got it easier than 99 ups. On the back side of the mirror inside the truck, is a small triangle piece. Pull this off, and there may be a grey plastic covering under that. Peel that back, and three nuts should come into view. On a 99 up, I believe the entire door panel must be removed .,,,,98
Fixing the loose shield is bit more difficult, but nothing really bad. Put the mirror glass all the way down, and you should see some plastic clips, that are attached to the shield. Using a long skinny regular blade screwdriver, gently pry the clips, while pulling out on the cover. I have not done it in a while, so I'm not sure how many clips there are, I think it's four? Move the mirror glass around until you get them all loose.
Something tells me a couple of yours are already broken, since it is loose. You may be able to remove it with a firm, quick pull on the cover. Once it comes out, either order new ones, or put a few generous lines of clear silicone on it, and press it back on. Clear silicone can make a stronger bond than many people realize, when used on things like this. The broken clips will probably not be missed, and it will only come off when you want it to.
Be sure and clean the inner shield and mirror assembly well, and dry them before putting the silicone on. The cleaner and drier the two parts, the stronger the bond will be.
