Door Ripple

Anyone with a 2004-2006 F150 Supercab notice a ripple in the read door. I had it on mine and I have notice it on a few other supercabs. It cost me to have it removed and the door repainted but it look perfect now. I cannot believe they put them on the lot this way.

I believe the 2004 F150's have a TSB out for this. If you have a 2004 and under warrenty still, it should not have cost you anythign to fix. where did you get it fixed at?

Most likely a condition that develops when the panel is drawn. Could also be created while being hemmed.
It is common for things like that to happen when a new vehicle is launched. They run out of time fixing problems and just start making them. After a couple years of production the car or truck will be have all the bugs worked out. It is wise to wait a couple of years before buying a newly redesigned car/truck. But then you lose out on that being first to own one feeling. My wifes 02 Explorer had a bunch of little things wrong with it. Broken mirrors, interior panels not snapped in place, loose door hinges, etc. I then looked at the build date and found that it was the first day back after MLK day. That was just great!! One more thing is sales start to slow and they wheel out the rebates.

2004 door ripple

I've got a 2004 supercab lariat with 2300 miles on it i just bought, truck was garaged n driven very little had 1600 on it when i got 1 month ago.the truck sits outside now the other day i noticed a few ripples 3/4s way up the drivers side rear door now i have a bunch more n even some at the bottom. The more i open n close this door the more i seem to get.I'm very picky about my vehicles n know for a fact that nothing has hit this door.I'm going to stop by the dealer next week n see what happens. I let a paintless dent removale guy look at it n he beleaves it is a factory design problem. i will post n let you know how it works out at the dealer not getting my hopes up.Bob

this has been discussed many time before. yes, there's a TBS about it somewhere. i believe it is caused by the coefficient of expansion between 2 different materials...1 being the metal door and 2 being the sound deadener/mastic patch whatever they call it. and when the truck is put in temps below freezing, this happens. i haven't looked into whether trucks that have never been below freezing have this prob or not.

so the tsb is useless, take off old mastic patch and install new one. well....anyone knows that WILL NOT fix the problem with the verticle creases in the door. if the door is repaired, you will know it, it will show. i believe the only real solution to ford is replace the door with a new one.

It doesn't get below freezing in Florida...

and I can see it in the back doors of my 2004 super cab. Couple of times I have had to run my hands over it to make sure I did not get a super ding.

Don't suppose I can get new doors or a new paintjob??

I believe your right....expansion theory. I have had this TSB done....they removed the mastic patch and replaced it....both doors. Just as bad as before if not worse. I try not to look at it in cold weather.....makes me cringe. When its warm out.....it disappears.

As far as a repair showing, I believe a good shop could do it without a problem, but if it is do to expansion......sooner or later it will show up?

I remember someone posting that they had the mastic patch removed and not replaced and that that cured it. I remeber they said that they didn't have any problems with it. I think there is still an issue with the newer Scabs, so I don't know if new doors would fix it (2005 & 06's in the local lot have waves....during winter). I believe the TSB for the 2004s, like mine, was initially issued to cover bad Mastic patches that crumbled and fell into many noisy pieces inside the doors......that's what happened to mine.

Maybe if the mastic patch was removed and the door was lined with some nice Dynomat....?

Door Ripples

I noticed my truck a couple weeks ago had the waves on both sides. Called the Ford body shop ,he bring it in and let them look at it, they said that I was the first one that have seen. I thought ok,here we go.I showed him the TSB on it and he ordered the 2 things on the paper. I took it in Mon. morning at 9:15 got it back at 1:00 same day,,,looks great, like new. He said the old mastic stuff was drawing the metal, heated the doors up and took the old stuff out, the ripples were gone, they couldn't believe it,,been 2 weeks later and still looks great.

anyone have any pictures of this?

I JUST noticed what I thought was a single minor ding just below and to the left of my rear, driver side door. I am VERY VERY careful about where I park, and I have no idea how or when it could have been dinged.

any chance that could be from the TSb problem?
