Locked Tailgate

Hey guys,

I closed my tailgate and locked it, and now cannot unlock with either key, the lock will not turn at all towards unlock. I am gonna take the box liner cover off and take apart the mechanism from the inside to get the thing unlocked 2moro. Just wondering if anyone had any words of advice or any tips or tricks for me. Thanks.

Go to your local harware store or wal-mart.... go to where they make spare keys.. and get a tube of graphite.... squirt a good deal of that stuff in there... it should un stick it.... after you get it working, put some more in there and work the key in it real good..

Hey,

Sorry I forgot to say that I already sprayed a bunch of lock de-icer in there and some good quality gun oil and some silicone spray. Still didn't help me out at all, and its warm enough here now that the weather shouldn't affect it anymore.

Thanks.

Gun oil and silicone are going to gum it up more. Try using graphite like country duck suggests!

Wd-40 cuts all grease and gummed up parts. Then use a good oil to keep it lubed. To me it sounds like a machanical problem with the lock.

Hey,

Just took it apart, the latch was hanging up and wouldn't allow the unlock to move at all. And the gun oil I was using is tested in the most extreme situations u can find, its used by all of the military branches in the U.S., and guaranteed down to -40C. Thanks for the help.
