Spare Tire Winch

Anybody know where I could get a new winch and how easy it is to get the old one off? I have a 1997 XLT and the cord is bound up pretty bad in the winch. I could only lower the tire a few inches before it got stuck and I haven't been able to fix it. Got the tire off somehow but I think the winch needs to be replaced.

it is held on by three bolts maybe 4 after you get it off you should be able to fix it by wigling the cable out and greasing it and winding it back in if the only thing that is stoping it from coming out is cable bind, i took my whole winch ***. off awile ago when it became useless with 38" tires i wish i would have kept it but i threw it away hopefully you can fix yours good luck

It's about a $75 piece from the parts places online. I had to replace mine because I broke out the place where the crank engages the winch. I had to cut the cable to get the tire off.

I've got the same dilemma. Frayed cable, got stuck. Took the unit apart by drilling out the four aluminum rivets. Winch is fried. The part is $100 at my local Ford dealer. Any input on where you can buy one online?

Thanks.
