I am probably going to pay outright with cash instead of notifying the insurance company. Anyone have any advice or helpful words, I am pretty bummed

1) Insurance companies read forums too, especially fraud units at insurance companies. It's likely a search has already been run against google, yahoo, etc. keywords related to your accident over the time period it occured.
2) Whether the damage occured from being towed out while you were stuck in the mud or at a car wash, It's a collision claim. A single collision deductible would apply to the accident. It's a little late now, but you could have told them the truth. The only way it would NOT have been covered is if you were engaged in a sport or organized race (like a tractor pull at the local stadium--not out having fun.)
3) In another post a reader claimed the other party is at fault for towing your vehicle. This is not true. There is an assumed risk by engaging in a hazardous activity. In this particular case that hazardous activity is allowing your vehicle to be hooked up and towed by a non-professional. There's no right of recovery because of the assumed risk.
In earlier life I worked as a claim adjuster. Things like this happen a little more than you might imagine, especially in the northern states when people are getting pulled out of the ditch during the winter.

p.s. Not to make you lose any sleep, but..paint transfer..paint transfer..paint transfer..

I have an Uncle who is very wealthy and got there because of vehicles and mechanics, I wish I went to him, he now tells me he could have gotten the door for 2-300 used and helped with the work. :X
I would expect my rate to increase for this, so I cannot turn it into my insurance, as I said before, I have a high insurance rate atm...very high. I don't even know how I will afford truck insurance when I get my '04 (that will be 6k/yr, not my current truck). I might have to go liability only which is under 200/month as opposed to 500+/month (I will buy it outright with cash so I am not required to have full coverage, although I really, really need it).
Kinda funny story when I was out getting my quotes the other week, a lowered (really lowered) newer Chevy 3500 DUALLY (yes I said dually, downright stupid looking) pulls up to the insurance place and got refused...easy to see why.

And you know your ins comp really doesn't care how it happend. If you get hit your rates will reflect it. They WILL cover your damage even if you were out muddin your 2X. All you have to do is tell them what happend and they will fix it minus your dedct. I hit a rock while driving way too fast in the desert and ripped the tranny case apart. They paid all but my $500 deduct including the tow. They say hitting the rock was a accident just like hitting another car. Just a thought.
Your paying 6000 a year for full coveragr thats outragouse I only pay 874 a year full coverage with a 500 dedcutable collision and 100 comp. deductable. with a couple speeding tickets on my record but i guess it helps to be 40. and have a safe driver discount.
Even with something like this, if your insurance company won't take your claim, then you need to be looking for a new insurance company. If you have full coverage (and not just liability) they should be able to help you. Just be honest. I had a ding on the back right side of my truck that happened TWO YEARS ago when some a**hole hit my car while it was parked overnight and ran without incident. I finally had it repaired not more than one week ago today and they gave me no issue with it whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I left the claims center with a check in my hand. Had it fixed in three days. I was mortified because I knew it had happened two years ago but I was thinking "should I TELL them that it happened one week ago so that they might actually process my claim?" Then when I realized that honesty is always the best policy (as it usually happens), I told the truth and was rewarded. I'm sure that if you reason with them, they should be good to you back.
I heard that insurance was bad in Cali, but i didn't know it was THAT bad!!! We have an F-150 and Explorer insured for $2,400 per year here in Ft. Worth.

On another note:
Enterprise just got here, if you read my "4x4 damage
" thread, then you know why. It was labor day weekend, took them some time.
