Anybody Know How To Put On A Aftermarket Lightning Bumper ?
I JUST GOT A AFTERMARKET LIGHTNING BUMPER OFF EBAY TO PUT ON MY 02 F 150. DON'T HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT GOES ON. IT'S NOT A BUMPER COVER IT'S A FULL REPLACEMENT BUMPER. I WAS LOOKING AT MY FACTORY BUMPER THAT HAS HOLES WHERE BOLTS ANCHOR IT ONTO THE FRAME, BUT THE AFTERMARKET BUMPER DOESN'T HAVE ANYWHERE ON THE BACKSIDE TO HOLD IT IN PLACE TO EVEN PUT BOLTS. THE GUY WHO SOLD IT TO ME SAID I WOULD HAVE TO DRILL HOLES IN THE BUMPER FOR PROPER FITMENT BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE HE IS TALKING ABOUT DRILLING HOLES. IT IS ONE BIG PIECE OF FIBERGLASS. I HOPE HE DOESN'T THINK I'M GOING TO DRILL RIGHT THROUGH THE FRONT OF IT WHERE THE BOLTS WOULD SHOW ON THE OUT SIDE.
DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW WHAT THE PROCEDURES ARE FOR INSTALLING THIS KIT ????

THANKS,
I ALSO CAME ACROSS THIS A COUPLE WEEKS AGO BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS BUMPER. IT LOOKED PRETTY EASY. THIS BUMPER I HAVE WILL HOPEFULLY GO ON WITH NO PROBLEMS. I JUST DON'T KNOW IF IT ATTACHES TO MY EXISTING FACTORY BUMPER OR IT SOMEHOW IS HELD IN PLACE WITH BRACKETS. I'M GOING TO PULL OFF MY FACTORY BUMPER THIS WEEKEND TO SEE IF THERE ARE PARTS HIDDEN OUT OF MY VIEW THAT WILL HOLD IT IN PLACE. I WOULD PROVIDE A PICTURE OF THE BUMPER BUT I'M NEW TO THIS SITE AND DON'T QUITE KNOW HOW TO ATTACH A PICTURE YET.
THANKS FOR THE HELP,

The image needs to be somewhere on the net already (in an F-150 OnLine Gallery perhaps) and then just use the "IMG" button on the page where you type up your reply.
Good luck with your bumper.
Good luck with your bumper.
THIS IS WHAT THE BUMPER LOOKS LIKE, THIS TRUCK IS NOT MINE, BUT WILL LOOK JUST LIKE IT, BUT OF COURSE I WILL HAVE THE BILLET GRILLE AND FOGS IN BEFORE I TAKE PICTURES

If there are no brackets on what you bought, then it must somehow attach to your current bumper or you need to buy the brackets from Ford. Mine is a factory Lightning cover and they replaced the entire bumper assembly and it does have support brackets that extend down to each corner of the cover. I will be taking it off this weekend, so if you need some pics of it from the backside, let me know.

I think mine is a cover but the guy who sold it to me said it was a full bumper replacment like yours.(I guess he fooled me) I took off my bottom valance and slaped it on over my factory bumper and it looked great. I don't mind though, atleast I still have the protection of still having the steel bumper in case of any accident...knock on wood. I just need to drill a couple of holes on the sides to sucure it and hold it in place. I shouldn't need any brackets but just in case I do for extra support it would be cool of you to take a couple pics for me so I have an idea of where to put them, thats if you don't mind.
Thanks,

Would you be able to attach it to the part of the factory bumper inside the wheel well where your. Maybe with a few screws on each side might hold it on and maybe some 3m strips on the inside of the cover to ensure it doesnt come loose. Hope you can use some of these ideas.
NICE TRUCK "NDITECH"
I THOUGHT ABOUT THE 3M STRIPS ON THE BACK SIDE TO HOLD IT IN PLACE BUT THEN I WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT DIDN'T SHIFT SO I WILL PROBIBLY END UP GETTING SOME 1' BOLTS WITH A SMOOTH HEAD SO IF YOU LOOKED CLOSLY AT THE SIDES YOU WOULDN'T SEE THE CROSS THREDS AND JUST TIGHTEN THE NUT FROM THE INSIDE. I HAVE SOME TOUCH UP PAINT TO PAINT OVER THE BOLT SO IT WOULDN'T STAND OUT.
I NOTICED YOUR FRONT LICENCE PLATE, OORAH!!!!!
I HAD MY AIRBORNE WINGS ON MINE BUT WITH THIS NEW BUMPER I'M PUTTING ON, I'M NOT GOING TO RUN A FRONT PLATE DON'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS. THANKS FOR THE IDEAS MAN

When you put the cover on does it wrap around in to the wheel well? What i was trying to say was you may be able to attach it like you would mud flaps with some screws so you wouldnt have to use the flat head bolts except for in the wheel well. I think i would still use some of the 3m strips to ensure even with the bolts it doesnt rattle or make noise.
Take it eazy marine and dont get in to much trouble.
This is a little off topic but what base do we have in Albany GA? Or are you on leave before school?

GOOD IDEA, I'L USE BOTH TO REDUCE VIBRATION. TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION YES IT DOES WRAP AROUND INTO THE WHEEL WELL. THATS WHERE I WAS GOING TO PUT THE SCREWS SO THEY WILL BE OUT OF SIGHT.
I AM STATIONED HERE IN ALBANY, GA AT THE MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE. IT'S A SMALL BASE NOT MANY MARINES HERE ONLY A LITTLE OVER 500. OUR MAINTENANCE CENTER IS OUR MAIN OPPERATION INSTALING ALL THE EXTRA ARMOR ON TO OUR COMBAT VEHICLES THAT GO OVER TO IRAQ. IT HELPS PROTECT OUR MARINES FROM ALL THOSE ROADSIDE BOMBS THAT ARE KILLING US OVER THERE.
HERES THE BASE WEB SITE IF YOUR INTERESTED: www.ala.usmc.mil

Thats cool that our trucks are equipped before the go. I spent my entire career in Jax NC at MCAS New River. Had to get out of the when they kept trying to send me to recruiting duty. I still wish i was in though.
Anyway back on topic good luck with the cover.
