Graphite Lube screwed up my door
Graphite Lube screwed up my door
So the other day I was surfing some old threads and found one talking about graphite lube for your locks. Called the dealer and everything sounds kosher. Picked up a tube and followed the directions to the T and now I can not get my key all the way in to lock or unlock the doors.
If anybody can help with this please do. How do I make them work again. And oh yeah bear in mind it's a 2000 so I already have no cruise control and burned out door lock motors so the key is my only choice right now.

i dont know exactly what graphite lube is... but i guess somehow it locked up or blocked up some of the moving parts inside the lock, which doesnt make any sense...
only thing i can think of is to spray some type of solvent in there to loosen things up. i would start with something mild like wd-40 or 3in1 oil and if that doesnt help u could possible try a little paint thinner or something i dunno. otherwise i think you'd have to disassemble the lock...
good luck...

As stated before, you might try wd-40.
Did you use powdered graphite or graphite suspended in an oil base. If powdered, I could understand what happened as it could get clumped up and jam the slot. I use some stuff called Lock Ease. It is a liquid that looks like some kind of light oil that has graphite in it. The oil will eventually evaporate leaving the graphite to lube the lock. I have never had any problems with this stuff, except trying to use it when it's too cold. The liquid can freeze. Best to use it ahead of time. Then not have any problem later.

DO NOT USE WD40 IN any LOCKS>>.It will just gum up the locks.......
Graphite or graphite lube with silicone is the only thing to use.
Did you shake the can? Probably what happened is it loosened all the crap in the lock....spray it down with some silicone and reinsert key lots in and out and turn.
