F150 Power Windows Scratching and door cracks and rain gutter cracks
Hi from Vancouver, BC. We have a 1998 F150 3-door with power windows. The windows have some deep vertical scratches (mostly the driver's side) on the outside of the glass. The dealership where we purchased our last (and I mean last from them) p/u said it must be from being dirty! Don't think so it gets washed almost daily. Anybody else have this problem or have heard of this problem?
We also have the problem with the door crack. We were led to believe we were "special" ... an isolated incident. Ya Right! Our favourite dealership has "fixed" it three times now. We've changed dealerships and lo and behold we are getting the door skins changed this week.
Didn't realize until we checked out this site but we have the really bad rain gutters too. We had an accident that required box skin replacement so my husband had the body shop paint the gutters because our fav dealership said the crack was there because a bird dropped something into the gutter and caused the paint to crack. Now the whole gutter end on the passenger side is lifting in a big hunk. Gotta love those dealership excuses when they don't want to fix something under warranty.
Thanks
Karen & Norm

Your window gets scratched because of sand or dirt laying between the outside weatherstrip at the bottom of your window and the glass. When the window is rolled down that sand becomes trapped between the weatherstrip and glass and the sand is what is scratching the glass--------Whenever I wash my truck I use my finger to peel back this weatherstrip and flush away all the debris there. Infact I rarely roll down my windows because of the door crack problem. Makes for a poor solution on a $32,000 truck and not be able to use the power windows
I noticed on my drivers window today when I pushed the button to put it down I felt it vibrate on the way down as I had my arm on the door sil.

Hello from a fellow Vancouverite! I have a 98 super cab and I too have the problems that you have, well except for the window thing. As for the roof gutter cracks, I did some research in this site and decided to just apply some touch up paint instead of having it fixed. This is because of the risk of a botchy paint job, the high probability that it will return anyway(design flaw?) and the hassle of not having a car for a couple of weeks or more. A lot of people say its cosmetic, it does not corrode and it will return anyway. I decided to put the paint anyway so it seals it, just in case. As for the door crack, I have shown it to the dealer but the service advisor won't authorize anything until its approved by the service manager. The problem is the service manager is NEVER on Saturdays and weekdays is hard because of work. Such BS! The door crack does have to be fixed cuz its structural and will get bigger and eventually rust. I too rarely roll down the windows cuz of the door crack but sometimes I miss the West Coast Express and must drive to the office and thus roll down the window so I can pay for parking.
