Thumbs down Crack was repaired...only to return.

I had my infamous door crack "repaired" by the dealer about 3 months ago. I used a clay bar and wax on my truck today and low and behold, the crack is back! I am beginning to get fed up with Ford and all of their silly repairs that don't fix anything at all. Does this mean my head gasket leak they "repaired" will leak again too? Well, I guess it is another call to the dealership on Monday!

Dang, Man! What brand of clay bar were you using!! I'd be writing that company a nasty letter if their product causes cracks in doors!

rocky,

i had the first repair at my door crack attempted over the winter. within one week the crack was back and the paint actually chipped off in one big flake where they repainted. it didnt even look like they tried to weld the door.

brought it back and insisted on new skin. also brought it back to a body shop of my choice. since then it has been perfect, and believe me every time i get in the truck i look to where the crack was.

paint match is perfect as well.

since then i have also bought a set of weather tech rain guards. they fit inside the window rail without tape. i now never roll the window up all the way. i am hoping that this will help put less stress on the door frame.

I called the dealership today, and they said to bring it up and they would see what they could do. The problem is, I am now 4000 miles out of warranty. They had better plan on fixing it since it was their poor workmanship they didn't fix they problem in the first place! I will keep you updated...

>>>>Just took mine in for the door crack and leaking rear slider. When I mentioned the door crack the guy just smiled and said they had fixed a bunch of them. Told me he would order me a new door to fix it. Said he still didn't think Ford had a permanent fix yet. Told me they had replaced two drivers doors on the same truck for the crack. He was talking like Ford was gonna bite the bullet before long and do a recall. Problem is they still don't have a permanent fix yet. Don't know if he was talkin out his *** or not. Anyway, gonna be gettin a new door put on mine in the next few weeks.

jpf1715, where did you take the truck? what dealer? The dealers around Richmond are starting to do the repairs now but I would prefer a new door- it would be worth the drive.

I have been dealing with Ford for the past week about the door crack issue, (I want it fixed at no cost to me since it was reported when under warrany, but now is out of warranty) So far they are working with me. However, the dealer has just started fixing the trucks on the lot first before they will fix any customers. The body shop manager did some phone calls to other local dealers whom have performed the fix and his conclusion is that the fix may not really be a fix since those dealers have reported the crack to return. I am not totally convinced by his conclusion because the fix has only been out since January, and these dealerships supposedly fixed these trucks last year? I don't think that they used the reinforcement package, just weld and paint.

Saw my dealer on Monday, they said they will "repair" the crack correctly since they screwed it up the first time. They also informed me of another problem Ford has admitted to about their doors. Check yours to see if it is happening. There is a problem with rust on the bottom of the door. Look on the inside of your doors at the bottom. Follow the bottom of the door up to the front corner (by the fender). Where the door skin is fused to the door, there is rust starting on mine, and he said many others have the same problem. Accoding to him, it is only a TSB, since I am out of warranty, I am probably S.O.L.

1081042,
>>>>Sorry I didn't respond back sooner. Hadn't been by here for a few days. I took my truck to Freedom Ford in Wise, Virginia. It's in southwestern Va about 7 hrs give or take from you. They have my door in now, I just haven't gotten back up there to get it put on yet. There still waiting for my new rear slider to come in so I'm waiting on it before I take it back. Hope that helps.

Had my 99 F-150 drivers door crack fixed and kits installed in both doors, so far so good. Make sure they put kits in your doors to prevent them from cracking again. By the way they had my truck for 8 days.
