Question '04 Rear Doors/Wavy Appearance

Hey
Ford has issured a service bulletin, on the appearance of the rear doors on a supercab, says they have a wavy appearance in the sheet metal. We have a new one with this problem, not damaged. I have called 3 ford dealers and they either dont know anything or are not willing to look it up. It was issued in Jan of '04. Appears to be something either mounted or stamped wrong? Any help appreciated at this point!

What model trucks are you talking about? The old model or the new ones?

I am sorry, I see now that you meant the new models, I haven't noticed anything myslef on the new ones, but that is something to check into.

So, you're looking for a TSB number here correct?

You may try www.alldata.com for the TSB if so...

its a "door ripple" caused by the sound deadening material in the door...

Wavy Appearance

I have the same problem on my 04 Supercab. Makes me mad every time I look at it. I thought it was just me. I look at other Supercabs and they don't all have the same problem. I didn't notice it until a few months after I purchased it. When the light is shining just right it is very obvious. I've posted a message before and didn't receive any replies. Will Ford do anything about it?

Here is the TSB#
03-26-4 JAN 04 Body - Rear Door Wavy Appearance/Rattles

Yes, Ford will fix it under warranty. I just got mine back from having it done. They originally said one week but it ended up taking three because according to them they could only see the ripples in the outside sunlight when it was painted. So they ended up having to do the same repair three times. I think it would have cost them less just to order new doors.

Good luck.

What did they do to fix the doors? Did it require body work and repaint?

kingrw,

Yes it required body work and repainting.

They "replaced pads in rear doors per TSB 03-26-04"

According to the invoice they repainted both the front and rear doors (didn't realize they did anything to the front doors until I just reread this invoice so thanks).

And replaced sone door handle assemblies and replaced a "mirror-rear view outside-sail mount electric" assuming that is a door mounted mirror. Don't know why they had to do that unless they wrecked them while they were painting the doors.

I will have to admit they did a great job. It blended well and the waves are gone. But I did have to make them do a bit of house keeping when I got it back. They had some tacky stuff on the windows, tape still stuck to the inside of the doors and rags in the bed. They took it back and cleaned it up and washed it again and it looked great.

My wife thought it was odd that I made them go back and do that when I could have done it very easily myself but heck, that is part of the job as far as I am concerned and I wasn't getting paid to clean it up.

So yes there was some body and paint work and like I said earlier, it kept me out of my truck for a few weeks.

Tankkllr,
Thanks for the info. I just received a letter from Ford today reference another problem with possible corrosion in the right hand side box outer panel in front of the tail lamp. This is Customer Satisfaction Program 04B23.
I will be making an appointment for them to fix both problems.
Once again...thanks!
