Post Squeaky Steering

I purchased a 97 extended cab 4x4 w/ORP back in December. The steering has always squeaked when you turn the steering wheel either while standing still or moving very slow(pulling out of a parking spot). I had heard other F150's and Expeditions sounding the same and thought that it might be a manufacturing problem but it seems to be getting louder AKA more annoying now that the weather is warming up. There are no problems with the steering just the squeaking. I went to grease the tie rods but found out I could not. Any suggestions on getting rid of the annoying squeaks?!Thanks in advance.

There is a bushing at the pitman arm off of steering box it is a factory sealed bushing without grease fitting. I had the same problem so I used a grease gun needle adapter and poked thru the side of the bushing, refilled the bushing and sealed with RTV silicone, squeak has not returned and bushing has not leaked for a year.

I have that same squeaking sound going on.Talked to a mechanic and he said the exact same thing that CDeHeer97 said. The factory seals did not have grease nipples.the replacements do.Mine is going in tomorrow for repair.I'll keep you posted on exactly what it was and how much to repair it.

Sully,

Got my truck back today and guess what.......NO MORE SQUEAK.It was just like CDeHeer97 said....Pitman arm.The mechanic did the same fix with the gun needle. When I do eventually replace the pitman arm,the cost for the part is $68 canadian at the Ford dealer.Plus installation approx 45min.Sure is nice not to have that embarrassing squeak.Hope this helps.Thankyou CDeHeer97

Thumbs up

It sure is nice to pull in or out parking spaces without people around you looking for the squealing grenada or pacer isn't it.
Anyway I'm glad to here it worked out for you.

As I said the repair has kept quiet for over a year now.

My newest problem is my girlfriend whom rarely "gets to" drive my truck drove it this weekend--$1,138.00 to repair, appearently someone put a fence where she wanted to go. OUCH!!!
