I know this subject is off topic, but I really need to know, this was what happened, one night two nights ago the glass window on the back of the explorer the one that is part of the tailgate exploded, it happened in the middle of the night, there was nothing that hit it or anything, just a freak thing, the model is a 200o eddie bauer, the dealer is going to cover it but I need to know where to find the actual recall or safety bullitin that pertains to this, or why this might hae occured, anything you could offer me would be apprecaited alot, thanx again and this message baord is awesome, you guys really help.

Do you have an alarm? This was possibly a theft attempt. In Houston at least,thieves ride around in cars and shoot out car windows with a BB gun. The
ones without an alarm get stolen(maybe just the radio) Could be just a freak occurrence too,though. I think I've heard of this happening before,,,,,98

Do you have the redesigned (bigger) explorer? I ask because that is the model with the recal on the glass. The recal is because when the glass is closed it can break, becaues of the the shock mounting to it. Go to http://www.bonforums.com/recall_02explorerglass2.htm

Well we thought that it could have been theft, but the thing was its in out garage that this happened and it happened between 4 and 7 in the morning, cause I was up that night workin out there and it was fine, although all the windows were up, and it does have an alarm, the thing was there was no piece of glass larger that a 1/4 inch, and the was glass about twenty feet away from the explorer, this is I guess just a freak accident, kinda weird eh?

I've got a 98, and I never had that problem... sounds like either defective glass, or a mis-alignment on the hinge or latch. I used mine every day for 2 1/2 years... wore the seal out twice, but never broke the glass.

That is wierd!!!! I think I heard someone who had this happen on another site. It was sitting in the drive at night,and the rear window exploded. Same thing that happened to you.,,,,98
