Post Laeky rear window

I have a 97 f-150 xlt extended cab. Rear window has a slider. Rear window leaks bad from top of window (not slider). Dealer says I need a new window cause window frame is bent from cab flex or heat (design flaw?). Anyway, I think I can fix it for $2 in caulking if I can get the rear molding off the truck. Has anyone removed this before? Do I need special tools? Im out of warranty and $500 for a new window can be used somewhere else. Thanks

You can try that, it just unbolts. There's a few different methods of fixing them on the board here, as there are many that have had this problem. I had mine sealed like you're describing (I think), which lasted for a couple months. Then it started leaking again at the crack (passenger side at top). I filled the crack with super glue and black gasket sealant from inside the cab, and it hasn't leaked in a while. Good Luck and welcome to the board!

Hey ringmaster, thanks for the info. What is meant by a "service order". Things got ugly with the dealer last week before I left. Major denial that they have seen or heard of this problem before. Should I contact someone else, like regional rep? It just sounds like this is a problem on this truck.
Whatever happened to quality is job 1. This whole ordeal has soured me.

Mine leaks also. I was told I'd need a newer version replacement window. Now I'll head for the dealer. Thanks for the info.
