Question Door and Tailgate rust fix

Ok... winter is coming and I need to get off my butt and take care of that rust in the seems. I know the old way is to scrape and sand down to bare metal, prep, and paint. But, I have seen some stuff that claims that all you have to do is apply over the rust. No scraping, sanding, or even painting if you don't want to. Now this sounds like a hell of a deal!! Has anyone used this type of stuff and can verify that it's that easy?

I haven't had any trouble finding some of the stuff, but thanks for the response. I am hoping to hear from someone who has used this stuff and can say whether it works or not.

Crownie - I used to work in R&D for a company that made these rust destroying coatings. Although they say you can apply directly over rust, I suggest that you don't. Take the time to mechanically remove the rust before using the product. You will have much better success this way.
