Post I had the door crack TSB done . . now windows screwed

Did anyone with manual windows have the door crack TSB performed? I had mine done. It took the dealership two days to get it done.

Driving home, I noticed I needed to adjust my mirror, so I rolled the driver's side down and it was VERY stiff, to the point I thought I might break something getting it down. When I got home I tried the passenger side and it was stiffer than it was before the fix, but not nearly as bad as the driver's side.

Anyone else experience this? I'm going to take it back to the dealer now for the windows. But my thought is this: perhaps the windows are harder to roll up and down because the door is stiffer. Perhaps that's what was causing the door cracks in the first place, the curvature of the window as it rolls up and down causing the metal to flex. In both cases, the window rolls down smoothly until the halfway point, then gets very stiff, then eases up a bit as you roll it all the way down. It's just the reverse rolling it back up.

Any comments?

I've got the power windows on my '97.

It's been in three times for adjustment for the same symptoms you now have.

Now that it's out of warranty it's doing it again. I haven't had the TSB done but do have the crack in driver's door and probably in the passenger's as well. I'd guess the design of the window/door interface is marginal at best and the torquing and flexing causes the crack and the binding.

If it ain't one thing its another. Before taking it back to the dealer see if you can lubercate the windows and see if that helps.

It was a re-assembly issue. The Body Shop at my dealership fixed it on the spot.

I recommend everyone getting this TSB done before your warranty runs out. They will not do this for free if you are out of warranty. Just about EVERY 97-98 I saw on the lot had the door crack on at least the driver's side, many had them on both sides, and a few had started to rust.

Thanks again to F150online for pointing this out. I would have never known until it was too late.

Yo,
Went in for my retro-fix kit on my passanger door. Already had the drivers door replaced. Got my passager door in just before 36,000.
They did not have correct glue gun to apply adhesive. Otherwise would be done.

I've seen the instructions (posted in here somewhere) for the retro-fix. My first thought regarding windows was alignment too.

I suggest everyone have them roll up/down the windows the morning you bring it in, and tell them you expect them to work this well when you pick it up.

Then check them before you accept the truck.

Frank
(now someone remind me to do just that when i go back)
